L'Innommable perfume by perfumer Serge Luteus
If he will not work for him, he will offer his first collection at only 24 years old, "Givenchy University". This is where the saga of the Givenchy fashion house begins. Between chic, timeless elegance and luxury, the brand unquestionably ranks among the greatest. After his very special meeting with Audrey Hepburn, Hubert de Givenchy invented a perfume for her, which at the same time allowed her to make her debut in the world of perfumery, "L'Interdit".
An American actress for muse
The young fashion designer meets Audrey Hepburn when he expected to receive Katharine Hepburn. The American actress had then come to solicit him for the costumes of his next character "Sabrina". The actress who breaks with the codes of current fashion immediately appeals to Hubert. Her slender and slender body is almost androgynous and Hubert sees in her a great duality… Thanks to this meeting which becomes a real friendship, Hubert de Givenchy draws large couture dresses for Audrey. To thank his muse for the success he knows, Hubert de Givenchy decides to give him a perfume. If he is inspired by the duality he notices in her, the young couturier nevertheless wants a seductive essence. If “L'Interdit” saw the light of day in 1954, it was only intended for Audrey Hepburn. In 1957, Hubert decides to market this perfume and his muse gets angry "I forbid you", she tells him ... The name was all found. Initially, “L'Interdit” was however reserved for an elite and distributed in the most exclusive boutiques in Paris, London and New York.
L'Interdit, an opulent fragrance
Without being sulphurous, “L'Interdit” evokes a passionate seduction. The history of this perfume is imbued with the very “haute couture” elegance and glamor of 1950s Paris. “L'Interdit” begins with aldehyde notes, associated with the romanticism of the Bulgarian rose. The evolution is towards a powdery and very floral heart with iris, violet, jasmine and rose. The background is deep and sensual. It is made from sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver and tonka bean. The original bottle was ultra luxurious. It was a 157 gram block of crystal, combining femininity and artistic rigor. Since 2007, “L'Interdit” has been part of the very famous “Les Parfums Mythiques” collection by Givenchy. As such, its bottle has been revisited and uses the emblematic, pure and slender codes of this magical collection.
The result of an unlikely encounter, "L'Interdit" was created for Audrey Hepburn, an American actress. This gift that Hubert made to his friend, he wants to market it and make it discover to everyone. If “Audrey Hepburn” inspired him this heady fragrance, it also inspired his name “L'Interdit”.
