Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria collection puts Calabrian bergamot in the spotlight

While Guerlain is currently making a lot of talk for its new collaboration with the talented actress Angélina Jolie , know that this is not the only novelty brought to the brand at the start of 2017. Indeed, Guerlain has decided to complete its immense Aqua Allegoria collection with a fragrance that is fresher than ever. This one is called Bergamot Calabria and highlights, as its name suggests, bergamot from Calabria. Prepare to experience an invigorating flight to the heart of Italy!

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria

Among Guerlain’s most emblematic collections, Aqua Allegoria is by far the one that best combines exoticism and freshness. Indeed, the latter pays homage to the tradition of Eaux de Cologne while reinterpreting them with more hold. At the same time, each of its juices aims to lead us into an emblematic garden of a region of our planet. To do this, Guerlain perfumers have traveled the whole world in search of the finest raw materials. Each breath of the Aqua Allegoria is capable of making us travel to the other side of the world in a snap of seconds. Also, it is this time in Italy that Guerlain has decided to put down its suitcases.

The origins of Calabrian bergamot

Bergamot is a citrus fruit of ancient origin, reminiscent of lemon but with a much more penetrating aroma. Thus, this characteristic has earned it to be one of the most used fruits in perfumery. Its bark is very fragrant and delighted perfumers as soon as it is harvested, in January, when its bark turns yellow under the effect of the cold. Today, bergamot grows mainly in the south of Calabria, more particularly in the province of Reggio. In addition, this is where 90% of the world’s bergamot harvest is produced. In other words, Guerlain has indeed chosen the most emblematic product from this part of the world. So how about taking a little getaway to Italy and breathing in the crazy sun-kissed scent of yellow fields of bergamot trees?

The new Aqua Allegoria Bergamot Calabria

If bergamot is a product often placed in the top notes of perfumes, it serves here as a common thread throughout this fragrance. At its start, Bergamot Calabria combines this citrus fruit with petitgrain, an ingredient obtained by distillation of the branches and leaves of the sour orange tree. Then, its heart swings towards a scent of cardamom, a fruit known for its spicy, woody and slightly anise flavor. This is juxtaposed with ginger for an even more electrifying finish. Finally, Aqua Allegoria Bergamot Calabria ends with a fresh and tender breath of white musk. This new fragrance is presented to us in the emblematic bottle of the entire Aqua Allegoria collection. As if soaked in sun, it lets out golden reflections under its elegant honeycomb dome.
