The iconic Miss Dioir Chérie perfume

By evoking the beginnings of its creation and its name, a fabulous impossible love story or, quite simply, by understanding the historical and cultural context of this turbulent post-war era. Despite the decades, Mitsouko has managed to keep its share of mystery and joy, racy feminine independence and amorous lightness… The magic of a modernity that never ends.

Mitsouko and post-war perfumes for emancipated and free women

If, as one of the advertisements for Mitsouko announced, “The secret of charm is not to reveal everything”, the beautiful love story behind this perfume totally deserves to be!

In 1909 Claude Farrère, a close friend of Jacques Guerlain, published La Bataille recounting the terrible war of 1905 between Russia and Japan but also the fascinating love story between an English admiral and a beautiful mysterious and passionate Japanese, Mitsouko. A tragic story that revealed a captivating and deep woman but also worthy and determined, despite the obvious impossibility of her romance. In homage to this magnificent heroine and to the frenzied writing of her friend, Jacques Guerlain therefore decided to name her new perfume Mitsouko.

If Mitsouko is a heroine of a novel, she is also very representative of the femininity assumed and more liberated after the war, the famous Roaring Twenties. It is precisely this new Woman to whom Guerlain dedicates its perfume: she is both conquering and maternal, exuberant and very reserved. Like Mitsouko ...

Mitsouko and its innovative peach note for the very first chypre-fruity

The Mitsouko bottle, identical to that of L'Heure Bleue, serves its incredible juice by revealing a modern Art Nouveau artistic sensibility with its glass arabesques while maintaining its square shape, very representative of Guerlain perfumes. As for the inverted heart stopper, a technical feat of Georges Chevalier, it was imagined to metaphorically symbolize the impossible love of the so sweet Mitsouko.

Mitsouko juice, also made of contrasts, offers both magnificent fruity modernities and traditional chypre notes revisited to perfection. In top notes, the very sweet notes of bergamot, lemon and mandarin open the nose to fresh and precious scents. At heart we will have the pleasure of discovering, for the first time in perfumery, a synthetic peach note reproduced thanks to the laboratory development of the famous Aldehyde C14. This velvety and sweet almost candied peach will marry wonderfully with notes of May rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine and neroli. Finally, this magnificent fragrance will close with spicy depths of cloves and cinnamon mixed with a perfectly made chypre based on vetiver, labdanum, patchouli and oak moss.

Mitsouko is a deep and bewitching fragrance that never ceases to be loved as much for the richness of its floral and chypre scents as for its dazzling peach modernities. It is aimed at women of character and whatever the eras, it seduces as much as it inflames ... It is today considered a "masterpiece of balance and originality".
