Bois d’Iris, a very precious powdered essence

For more than 100 years, Van Cleef & Arpels has seduced women all over the world. Exceptional jewelry, unparalleled know-how … Year after year, the jewelry house has imposed its style and fashion.

The story of Van Cleef & Arpels began with the love story of Estelle Arpels and Alfred Van Cleef. Their first perfume “First” is a real surprise since it is the first time that a jewelry house has presented a perfume. In 2009, Van Cleef & Arpels unveiled “Bois d’Iris”, a fragrance taken from the very select “Collection Extraordinaire”.

Iris wood, the scent of driftwood that heats up in the sun

Van Cleef & Arpels’ Extraordinary Collection showcases a different ingredient per fragrance. A rare, noble ingredient that is sublimated thanks to other raw materials. In this collection, we find the gardenia, the rose, the lily … Here it is the iris that the brand wanted to highlight and shine. Once again, Van Cleef & Arpels proves that nature is a source of inspiration. This unisex fragrance is soft, woody and amber. As the brand affirms “It is a woody area that forgets the idea of the forest, the leaves, the earth, evoking more the smell of driftwood that heats in the sun”. Precious wood essences are mixed here with a beautiful powdered iris, a memory of magnificent Tuscan lands… The rendering offers an atypical and enchanting woodiness.

Iris wood and its woody notes

The talented perfumer Émilie Coppermann was chosen to develop this particular fragrance. “Bois d’Iris” begins with an astonishing and rare association, that of sweet notes and notes of olibanum. “Bois d’Iris” then evolves into a heart full of iris. This combines with vetiver, the quintessential male ingredient, and driftwood. The base of “Bois d’Iris” offers balmy tones slightly vanilla thanks to the presence of ambergris, cistus labdanum, myrrh and vanilla. The sleek and elegant bottle resembles all those in the “Extraordinary Collection”. Rectangular in shape, the bottle shines with sobriety. Its label displays its name and the number of the test that the brand has chosen. The hood made by the Jackel house is actually a zamak. That is, it is a mixture of aluminum, zinc alloy, magnesium and copper. A silver hoop surrounds the neck attached with a cord.

“Bois d’Iris” comes from the “Extraordinary Collection” by Van Cleef & Arpels. Very select, it puts, each time, a noble ingredient in the spotlight. Its composition is daring and mixes driftwood in the sun with a dazzling powdery iris. Suave and delicate, “Bois d’Iris” is a prodigious fragrance.
