This is where Guerlain perfumers drew most of their raw materials, giving birth to fragrances that are now famous around the world. To pay homage to this distant land steeped in exoticism, Guerlain has therefore decided to create the Absolus d'Orient collection . Year after year, this assortment of fragrances continues to grow. As proof, in 2019, Guerlain developed three different Absolutes of the East: Mysterious Wood, Mythical Incense and Intense Leather. Of course, in 2020, the story continues. This time, the brand's newcomer is called Patchouli Ardent.
The Absolus d'Orient collection
First of all, let's start by presenting the collection of the Absolus d'Orient. This assortment of fragrances pays homage, as the name suggests, to the eastern part of the planet. Guerlain therefore always selects one or two ingredients from these distant lands, to highlight them in fairly refined but very subtle recipes. The Absolus d'Orient are also all from a long maceration, which preserves all the purity and finesse of their raw materials. Here, Patchouli Ardent highlights one of the most precious woods and the most popular among perfumers: patchouli. Often placed in the base notes of fragrances, it serves here as a common thread for the entire recipe.
When Patchouli Ardent becomes a brighter wood
Usually, patchouli is a woody, rather dark and mysterious raw material. Widely used for men's perfumes, it becomes more vibrant and luminous here. Thus, Patchouli Ardent turns into a unisex juice, suitable for both men and women. But then, how does Guerlain manage to radiate its woody breath? In fact, Patchouli Ardent also contains rose, more feminine and delicate, as well as a majestic accord of leather and musk. The sensuality of this perfume is undeniable. Patchouli Ardent offers us a unique sensory journey to the heart of the Orient. This fragrance, synonymous with exoticism, exudes nobility and extreme refinement. Like all Absolus d'Orient, Patchouli Ardent is the work of perfumer Thierry Wasser, exclusive nose of Guerlain.
The Patchouli Ardent bottle, a dive into the history of Guerlain
Patchouli Ardent comes in a bottle that is not unknown to us. In reality, all the Absolutes of the East have the same bottle. Only their color and the arabesques on their labels differ from one edition to another. Here, Guerlain chooses a universal and shimmering midnight blue. On the latter, some golden elements stand out. The arabesques of its label give it a Moorish, typically oriental style. A luminous and sparkling ball overlooks the whole, while a small blue ribbon is also tied at its collar. The cylindrical shape of this bottle, as well as its dome, are a nod to one of Guerlain's most famous bottles: the legendary Flacon aux Abeilles.
